The Desenberg Event Center officially opened October of 2023.

1987

The final tenant of the Desenberg building before it became the Desenberg Event Center was Huntington National Bank. The bank occupied the building from 1987-2019.

1985

After the building was repurposed again, it became the Schau-Powell sporting goods store. This store remained in business until 1985 when it eventually shut down.

1950's

In the 1950s, the building was repurposed and became Hooker Glass & Paint Store. This store sold home improvement products and supplies such as paint, wallpaper, mirrors, and more.

Early 1900's

In the early 1900s, the building was bought by a wealthy German family. The family would renovate the Desenberg and continue its life as a store until WWI.

1886

The Desenberg building was built in 1886 to house the Desenberg Grocery Company. Legendary Chicago architect Louis Sullivan and his partner Dankmar Alder designed the building which is now the last remaining Sullivan structure in Michigan.

But there are a handful of months during the year here that stand out as the most popular and there is no surprise as to why. 

June

Arguably the most popular month to get married in West Michigan is June. Summer vacation begins, schools are out, and it’s safe to say it’s the start of wedding season! Flowers have bloomed by then and the weather is becoming much more consistent than May. Making June an ideal choice for the perfect summer wedding. 

August

For those who love warm weather, August is the perfect month to get married in West Michigan. This is usually considered the end of summer, as it starts to cool down from the high heat of July. Sunflowers are abundant and can make the most beautiful wedding decor and wedding photo backdrops. 

September

It’s no surprise that September made the list of one of the most popular wedding months in West Michigan. The start of fall and the end of summer all in the same month. The leaves are starting to change color and it’s starting to cool off making the most ideal outdoor ceremony temperature. September weddings have some of the most gorgeous photos too, with its warm tones and colorful leaves to create some of the best photo opportunities. 

When deciding which month is the best time to have a West Michigan wedding, keep in mind what aspects are important to you and your partner. Photo opportunities, weather/temperature, and even what flowers are blooming that time of year. All year is beautiful in the mitten state. You can never go wrong with a West Michigan wedding!
